Eduard “Eddie” MERC
Eddie Merc is originally from The Slovak Republic, Europe, and has been living in Hawai’i for the past 15+ years. He currently works as the Assistant/Interim Director at the Center for the Advancement of Innovative Teaching (CAIT) at Hawai’i Pacific University (HPU). He is also an adjunct business faculty member at HPU teaching international business and management HPU’s military campus programs.
Eddie is currently in his 2nd year of Ph.D. doctorate studies at the College of Education at UH Manoa with the concentration in educational technology (ETEC).
He also volunteers his time as a COEDSA and AECT-HI Council Member for graduate and doctorate student associations at UH.
Eddie came to Hawai’i as a former ATP professional tennis player to represent UH, HPU, and BYU-Hawai’i Universities to win two national NCAA tennis titles in 2002 and 2003.
At his full-time work at HPU, he specializes in distance education methodologies and educational tools for hybrid and online courses for both traditional and non-traditional student groups.
His passions include home-based travel business with his wife Kristine, tennis teaching and international travel.

- V-Tenn Virtual Tennis in Second Life (SL)
V-Tenn is a virtual sim that provides a variety of information accompanied by virtual simulations for tennis beginners to learn about the basic game of tennis. V-Tenn stands for ‘virtual tennis’, combining the virtual world elements of Second Life (SL) and instructional design. By offering an immersive learning environment, the participant will learn about tennis in various sections of the simulation.
