Valerie J.M. Watzlaf, Ph.D., RHIA, FAHIMA is an Associate Professor within the Department of HIM at the University of Pittsburgh. She also holds a secondary faculty appointment in the Graduate School of Public Health. She has been chair of AHIMA’s Coding, Policy, and Strategy Committee, the Research Committee, and the Council on Accreditation. She served on the board of directors of AHIMA and the AHIMA Foundation. She is also on the Editorial Advisory Board for the JAHIMA and for PHIM. Dr. Watzlaf has published extensively in the field of health information management and is the recipient of numerous awards and professional accolades including AHIMA’s Research Award.
